My Favorite Patios in Downtown Alton!

What are my favorite restaurant patios in Downtown Alton?

Alton is more than a charming city nestled along the Mississippi River. Not only is it known for its rich history and scenic beauty but in my opinion it's fantastic restaurant patios. When the weather is just right, there's no place I'd rather be than enjoying a meal while soaking up the sun or basking in the moonlight. So, grab your sunglasses and let's explore some of my favorite patios to dine out... literally!

1. The Charming Patio at Tony's Steakhouse

Let's go on holiday at Tonys, where their courtyard patio feels like taking a vacation to Italy. With its picturesque decor, complete with large umbrellas, tablecloths, and lush greenery, it's the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Indulge in their mouthwatering Italian cuisine, sip on any of their handcrafted cocktail, and let the enchanting ambiance transport you to a world of relaxation.

2. The Cozy Courtyard at State Street Market

If you're in the mood for a more intimate and romantic setting, my first suggestion is always State Street Market. Tucked away in a historic building on- you guessed it - State Street, their courtyard patio exudes a rustic charm. With twinkling lights, cozy fire pit, and a canopy of stars above, it's the perfect spot for a date night or a special celebration. I especially love how inclusive the menu is for people with dietary restrictions. Chef PK is always willing to work with us when we need an adjusted meal. In my opinion they have one of the best assortments of wine in the Alton area and if wine isn't your preferred libation, their cocktails are always top notch.

3. The Lively Sidewalk Setting At Bassanova

For those seeking a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, the sidewalk patio at Bossanova is the place to be. With great food, city setting, and an assortment of creative martinis, it's the perfect spot to let loose and have a great time. Indulge in their mouthwatering menu of globally flavored American style foods. It's one of my favorite place to take new friends as their list of Austin Powers themed martinis are sure to make your friends blush.

4. Cascading Views At Brown Bag Bistro

If the food at Brown Bag wasn't enough reason to stop by, their cascading outdoor patio offers shade and a newly installed Ice Cream window - where you can order  your ice cream right from the patio! They have live music from time to time but they focus mostly on lunch, as opposed to other live music options downtown that focus on dinner. Brown Bag is perfect for a lunch-date, as they close at 3pm most days, or for getting together with your gal-pals on a  Sunday afternoon. They also offer beer + wine and a variety of in-house made desserts; making it a well rounded lunch experience no matter what you're looking for.

5. The Food Truck Heaven At Flock

If you're a street food enthusiast who loves a touch of quirkiness, you'll fall in love with Flock. Not quite a "restaurant patio", it still deserves credit on this list for being one of my favorite outside eating spaces. Adorned with string lights, outdoor games, and optional covered dining, this is the perfect place to take your family or friends. Pair their unique dining experience with a full bar, from craft beers to rotating craft cocktails, and you're in for a delightful experience. When food trucks aren't present, feel free to bring food from you own favorite restaurant. It's a guaranteed recipe for a memorable evening!

Alton IL is a hidden gem when it comes to outdoor dining. Whether you're looking for a moment to be transported out of town, a place to celebrate your loved ones, or to make a new memory, Alton IL has it all. Anytime I'm eating out, I'm probably eating on a patio. Theres something soul cleansing about connecting with the outdoor while enjoying a meal made special for you. I hope you find this list helpful and if you haven't checked out these fantastic restaurants, please do! You wont' regret it. Bon appétit!

Thank you Sidney for your view on outside dining in Alton. I too enjoy an outside dining experience like they do in Italy. Your blog makes me yearn to go back, but learning about what Alton has to offer is a closer option for sure. Keep up the good work on your blog. I see you may have another career path on the horizon. FYI…just food for thought; if you’re looking for a close intimate getaway try booking a stay at the Cracker Factory on Broadway. Pick up takeout from one of your favorite place to eat in Alton that doesn’t have a patio and enjoy it on their balconies overlooking the beautiful Mississippi River landscape.
Cheers 🥂 to the beautiful weather for outside dining.
